Poor Templetess, the biggest of my fancy rat girls, seems to have a problem with re-occurring indigestion. She gets a bit sluggish, sensitive about anyone, human or rat, touching her belly, and she doesn't run and scamper around per the norm until the problem resolves itself. I've taken Tessie to the vet about this and he just said to make sure she was drinking and eating normally, which I do. I also give the group a special treat of flavored electrolyte water whenever she gets like this, being sure to give Tessie a share from a syringe so I can make sure she'd drinking. Is there anything else I can do to help her feel better?
:hugs:
Well, besides that?

Can you find out if there's a trigger food causing the tummy issues? I once had a rat have a tummy upset whenever he ate bananas.

She has a very varied diet. But, I looked around at the pet store today and I found a rat food intended for adult rats that aren't pregnant or nursing. It's lower fat, higher nutrition (and unfortunately higher price). I'm going to give it a try, because I have the sneaking suspicion that she's a bit overweight. Btw, how would I tell if she was?

Most pet rats are overweight anyway. But so long as she's not too fat, she should be ok.
What kind of rat food did you find? There really is only a couple of good ones out there. There's Oxbow Regal Rat and Living World Extrusion for Hamsters that is very suitable for rats. Nothing else in pet stores come close to the proper levels of protein and fat.
