So I got home tonight and Rosie was flat as a tack. She's just staying on the top floor of her cage or sitting in the hammock. Usually she is biting at the wires to get out for free time. I noticed a sloppy poo on the bedding on the top floor - which is very unusual as they are fairly clean and use the litter tray. I pulled out the bedding to change it and all these poos fell onto the floor!! :giggle:
They were softer than usual, mushy and stiiiiinkeeeee!! I am wondering if Rosie has a tummy ache? I can't be sure that they are her poos but as she doesn't want to move around much and there is poo there I am putting two and two together....

Could this be why she is so quiet tonight? She happily munched down the lettuce I gave her, ate a broadbean and took some water, but she's not her normal self. Any thoughts??

There's nothing that I can think of that she could eat which would be bad for her. I gave her some spaghetti pasta last night and it had a little cheese on it but I wouldn't think that would be too rich for her digestion - she's had much naughtier stuff than that before!

Many rats are lactose intolerant - the cheese could be the problem. Several solutions for runny poops - unsalted soda crackers; cut back on fruits/veggies, and the BRAT diet(bananas, rice(brown), applesauce(plain), toast(dry)). If you are going to continue feeding cheese, keep an eye on them to see if the same things happen, so you will know whether you should cut it out of the diet.

I don't think that's tummy aches, sounds more like being listless or lethargic. This is not good. She might be getting dehydrated, try really hard to get liquids in her, if she continue to be listless, I'd bring her to a vet.

Rosie will be one mid May. This morning when I got up there were poops all on the top floor again and they were the same, soft and greenish. I know it's her now because she did go down to the litter tray later and did the same type of poos. She's still very flat though.
I've been drop feeding her water through a syringe and she's taking that, so I will keep on it but I don't know why her poos could be greenish. Do rats get virus's like dogs can?
She's my heart rat and I love her to bits, so it's awful to see her like this.

I will feel her belly again when I get home tonight but I don't think it is hard. She felt normal when I picked her up this morning. It doesn't look bloated. What is a high-white marking?
