I adopted two females about six months old. It looks as if they were well cared for just not handled very much.
I was just reaching in and picking them up handling them for a few minutes then putting them back. I was doing this a few times a day. AFTER READING THIS SITE, I have changed my tactics! I am now sitting in front of the cage with a fleece blanket on my lap and a treat, every time one of them crawls on my lap I give them a lick of yogurt or a piece of toast. I pet and scratch them. They will then scamper back in their cage. I had the more adventurous one out running around yesterday but when I went to pick her up to place her back in her cage she squeaked. I do not want to scare the little one. Not sure if I am ready to do the down the shirt thing.
Should I just keep letting them come to me? I certainly do not mind taking my time as I want these little guys to trust me.
Thanks.
PS I LOVE this site.
