Lucy's in a crisis. She can't move without shaking, she moves very slowly, and she's spending her time curled up next to the wall in her hidey hut. She also periodically squeaks in protest, sometimes with no change in stimuli. She always protests when being pulled out of her hut. This is a rat who is normally very outgoing, licky, etc. and who loves being picked up and cuddled.

So... ear infection? Tumor? Stroke? I've already started her on Baytril and Metacam, and I suspect that's all I can do in any case, but if someone has input I'd really appreciate it.

How old is the little one? It could be any of the three. So far Baytril and metacam is a good choice. In a day or so, you might want to replace the metacam with prednisone or dex if there are no improvements.
Hugs to both of you.

She's 18 months old, which I know is prime for PT, and it can present in so many ways... the symptoms seem to say stroke, fast-growing tumor, and ear infection in about that order... all of which would call for the guesstimate medication for inflammation and possible infection. So now we wait. :/

She's getting around better and more confidently today. Still shaky, but slightly less so. She passes the cheerio test. She's also stopped making the seemingly random protest noises. Her cagemates are supporting her fairly well, too. I've never seen shakiness like this with an ear infection, even with bunnies, but I'm definitely not ruling it out. Poor doll... but she's adapting fast.
