well, Hope's armpit tumor has gotten so big she can no longer hold it up from rubbing on the floor any more (although Godloveher, she still tries)
she's still bright-eyed and normal in all other ways but now the tumor has a reddish irritated area on it where it rubs on the ground. the irritated area is about the size of large pea, I guess?

what can I do for that? is there anything I can put on it?

I am changing out the fleece daily and am going to cut up some white fleece today for the shelf liners so I can easily see if it starts to bleed.......
it's dark pink now, just starting to look red. Looks dry now but I don't know how long it will stay that way.

I tried vitamin e oil when Yoshi's tumour started to get irritated... thing is, everyone finds the smell of this stuff so interesting. This really stressed out Yoshi so I had to have her out with me, away from everyone for a while and then lightly wash it off before putting her back.

It seemed to help her...

hmm yes I can see everyone would probably want to groom it off her.......

I guess just keeping it super clean for now should be ok. I just never had a rat with a tumor this big, who was otherwise so incredibly healthy

she's over 2 now, probably about 26 mos? and she's in such incredibly good shape otherwise

she can climb as well and as fast as the youngest rats..........runs and fights and does every thing she's done since I first got her

she's really something!
I'll see if I can get a video of her later, you won't believe it!

thanks guys!

this video is a bit long and kinda boring BUT you do get to see some closeups of the tumors and some adorable ratty faces checking out the camera LOL

I didn't get any of her running around because this filled up the camera's memory, will try to get some that show how well she gets around, but you can at least see in this one, how bright eyed and alert, etc she still is, in spite of those huge ugly evil lumps

Hope looks really good even with those awful tumors. Have you tried Polysporin cream on the irritated area? That's what my vet suggested for one of mine. From what I can see in the video she has another while to go before it actually opens.

do you know if it would be ok to use a triple antibiotic ointment, that's what I have on hand?

or does it have to be polysporin and does it need to be a cream and not an ointment (the ointment has a vaseline type base)

thanks!

I'm not sure if it would make a difference. The cream gets absorbed faster but maybe the vaseline type would give protection longer from the rubbing on the floor. This is just my opinion though.
