So I live in a pretty dry climate... average humidity sits around 30%. I've been thinking about getting a humidifier for my self, but I'm not sure if it will be ok for Ronny. I've read a lot of conflicting info as far as humidity goes for rats... like that a moist area will cause upper respiratory infection, but if a rat is really sick holding them near steam will help...

Would getting a humidifier be harmful? I don't plan on putting it near his cage, or cranking it up so that my room is 100% humidity... but maybe 50% would be nice... so my skin and nose don't dry out so much.. and maybe Ron would be more comfy too... who knows.

If you are bothered by the dry air then I would guess that it might be a bother for Ronnie as well. The only thing I caution is to make sure you clean the humidifier very very well every couple of months.

A cool mist humidifier would be a good idea. I like the ones that allow you to set the humidity level.
The optimum humidity level for rats is 50%.
Sounds like both you and Ronny would feel much better with a humidifier.
