Tilly is still holding on- but she doesn't tolerate being held at all, and in fact it seems to hurt her

after I picked her up to give her meds, she got all puffed up and was grinding her teeth like she was in pain

I ended up mixing the meds with a bit of baby food and she took them that way, and gave her some ibu too

she's able to sit and eat on her own but the least little effort at all makes her so tired she needs to stop and just sit there, breathing hard.

My vet isn't in til Tuesday but I am going to call tomorrow anyway.

is there anything else I can do at this point?

OH, she wasn't cold this morning, but then she was sleeping all snuggled up with Clair

Clair is doing well in spite of the congestion (and 3 huge tumors!), she's eating well and getting around great.

Are you giving her Ibuprofen and Prednisone at the same time? They're contraindicated because of the increased risk of GI bleeding, you should only give one of the two. If she needs Pred and a pain killer, you need an opiate from your vet.

she only had the one dose of pred, she's not had any more

I don't know what she needs at this point, I am soooooooo confused!

no change in Tilly, she's still got that far away vacant look that's she had for days now, sitll not able or willing to pick anything up by herself, still looks scared and confused, and doesn't want to be held or picked up

Neither her nor Clair are drinking from the water bottle at all, all the liquid they get comes from their food and some bowls of ensure but Tilly doesn't get up to drink on her own either, I have to hold the bowl up to her and then she'll lick it up

sometimes it looks like she wants some but she turns her head aside

Clair relied on Tilly to groom her in the spots she cant' reach so she's reluctantly letting me clean her up. she is still very much interested in eating but it's hard for her to drag the tumors around, so she eats and sleeps and sleeps and eats

She and Tilly keep each other warm laying side by side in the low hammocks, although it takes a lot of effort for them to arrange each other just so that they can both breathe

If nothing changes soon, I will be making the call to bring both girls in this week.

:( Heartbreaking, I'm so sorry. Loosing one is hard, but two is.. ahh.. I don't even want to think about it. Sending my prayers and energy to your girls, and to you as well. :hugs:

gee, how long can a rat go without sleeping?

Tilly doesn't seem to ever sleep.

Her breathing seems to be ok but her chest is heaving, and her heart beat is so strong you can see it rocking her.
Poor baby, I wish I knew what to do for her.
she freaks out if I try to pick her up, and the smallest thing tires her out, but she's not sleeping
(and no, neither am I)

I fell asleep for about 2 1/2 hrs I hope she slept when I did, because when I went to check on her, her eyes were wide open and she was in the exact same place as she was before.
Clair, however, had gotten up and eaten some sunflowers and then gone to sleep in a different hammock

I've noticed that some rats do sleep with their eyes open, like a sleep cause I have to rouse them to "wake" them up even with their eyes open.
But rats suffering from URIs do have a harder time sleeping because they need to concentrate so hard on breathing.
