I found a tumor on Tilley.  She's a 23.5 month old spayed girl.  I'm a bit concerned, as it doesn't have the feel of all the mammary tumors I've had, it feels firmer instead of squishier.  It doesn't feel encapsulated, or at least not one encapsulated tumor, it's almost lumpy ???

I'm calling the vet monday to schedule an appointment and see about surgery.  It's in a really crappy place, where it will prevent her from toileting.  It's also fast growing, as I frequently check over my rats.  So I am hoping to remove it, especially since she has no health issues other than malocclusion, which is inconsequential for surgery.

I'm definitely a bit worried that the feel is off.

PS: Her feet aren't cyanotic, the color is off in the picture.

I'm sorry, I'm missing where the tumour is :s

How big is it? Has she had any tumours before? Could it be a chain of encapsulated tumours?

It's pretty small yes (I said it was fast growing because I usually find them when they are really tiny), it is to the right (our right) of her vagina and goes to the back of her leg almost.

I'm praying it is mammary or at the very least not cancerous. Hopefully I can get her in ASAP, it is killing me having to wait until Monday (during e-vet hours they don't like to schedule regular hour appointments) to call and get an appointment.

Thanks, I know me too, I hadn't seen any in a while since all my girls are spayed now.

My sister's rat had one there. It was a mammary tumour but some of the cells around it looked hyperplastic. Hopefully it's just a typical mammary tumour. At what age was she spayed?

My Jazzy has a tumour just a little higher than that. I had it removed in Jan, it recurred in March and I had it removed again. It recurred for the third time in May so we are not doing surgery this time (she was also spayed when she was younger.)
I hope you have better luck with Tilley...

If I remember correctly she was spayed at 14 months, for an invaginated uterus that caused bleeding. So mammary tumors aren't entirely out of the question. It's just the way it feels that has me a bit panicky, but believe me I am hoping!

Aww I'm sorry Joanne. That is so frustrating :sad3:

The soonest they could get me in was Monday :(. I had to ask my mom to bring her too, as I already have an appointment on the other side of the state.

I'll update when my vet sees her.

I know! They are usually really good about getting me in in a couple days. I suppose if I said I'd go with other vets I could go in sooner...but I've had the most surgeries with dr zyra and she knows Tilley's history and everything...I don't really know what to do, but I think I am going to at least leave a message to talk to my vet to explain the issues and potential urgency with this tumor, and see what she thinks.

Could you tentatively book a tumor removal so that you wouldn't be waiting an extra week? Maybe for later in the same week? Then if it's a no-go, you can just cancel the surgery.

Oh, Monday is set up for an exam and tumor removal assuming the vet thinks it is possible. Sorry, that's how my vets always done it so I didn't think to clarify.

As to earlier than that, the best they can do is call me if there's a cancellation, so I've got my fingers crossed for one!

Tilley made it through the surgery wonderfully! :joy: The vet said there was a fat pad underneath it? Weird but whatever, I'm so relieved, I'm leaving to pick her up shortly.

Thanks, yeah I was so worried, especially since they took forever to call because an emergency came in (waiting for the call is the worst part, SO nervewracking!) She's home and doing great
