I Have two girls that are our sisters that are about 8 months old now. They get along great but just recently Brandy my little beige ratty has been getting a little more aggressive with her sister bacardi. When they play fight Brandy is always the one giving in. She will always be the one pinned and groomed. She is a little smaller than her sister. Brandy recently has been going up to Bacardi and biting her on the ear resulting in loud squeals. It doesn't happen in just one section of the cage. There has been no changes in their diet or cage environment. They are in a roomy cage with 3 levels, lot's of climbing space and toys to keep them busy. Is Brandy just trying to gain some dominance? Any suggestions on how to stop this behaviour or what to do if it get's more heated? :(

They have been together since birth?
Check for mites/lice...that can make rats grumpy. But keep in mind it could also be their form of play. Does Bacardi sleep with Brandy? Does Bacardi run the other way when she sees Brandy coming up to her? Does Brandy allow Bacardi to eat or come out of the cage to play?

yep they have been together since birth They sleep together all the time. Brandy let's her come out of the cage and play. Bacardi doesn't run away. Brandy was always the submissive one when they play fought so maybe she is just getting more bold. I will check for mice/lice.

Thanks for your help.

I'd definitely let them work it out, it might be just part of playing, mine did that too.
You might want to do a treatment anyways for mites.
