Forgive me if this should be elsewhere -- I've got a real sense of urgency on this.
Lollipop's tumor is located in her private area, and growing. She's already had a number of tumor removal surgeries and an implant i.e. spay. Our vet said this tumor is growing fast, and it will eventually push over such that she will not be able to poop/pee and will have to be put down.
I've read about two possible treatments, tamoxifen and prednisone, but the vet seems not to favor either. I'm wondering if someone can fill me in on the use of tamoxifen and/or prednisone in a case like this. I've read Debbie Ducommun's Rat Health Care booklet, and it looks to me that this tumor may be a malignant one, but this is my first rat, and I may be wrong..
My vet says that prednisone is a chemo-like treatment that shows some success, but has lots of side effects. This sounds like it will make my little girl very miserable in her last days. And Tamoxifen he's heard is not very effective.
At this point I'm not expecting to find something to shrink the mass, I just hope to slow down its growth with minimal side effects so that Lollipop can have more time and quality time.
Please help! What can you tell me about tamoxifen, prednisone, or any other treatment you know of that would work in this situation... and thank you..
