My rattie Devon's tail was slightly shut in his cage door :sad3:
The sides of his tail were punctured. Its not bleeding and it looks like the scales were peeled off.
What can I do for him? :cry4: Should i give him some pain meds? If so, what should i give him?
Please someone help me help my poor baby :sad3:

Here's a picture of it. sorry for the poor quality. He wouldn't hold still.

He screamed when it happened. It looks painful but he's not frantically licking it. :sad3:

I would just leave it then. The scream can be the pinch and the scare, not so much of an injury. I cannot see the pic at work, but have seen many of these before.

Ok. It happened once before. This time isn't half as bad. We cleaned it twice a day with peroxide and put triple antibiotic ointment on it and it healed up perfectly. I just wanted to check with everyone here for advice. Last time I didn't have anyone to consult with. :?

Eeeek! It happened before? Is there anyway you can make that cage door less dangerous? D:

Rats have a way of putting their tails in the way, it's not an issue with cage design, just a matter of being vigilant.

I wouldn't use peroxide or ointment on it, just keep it clean and use saline or Baxedin if you think you need an antiseptic.

Not really unfortunately (At least that i know of). The first time it was not myself. This time it was me :sad3: I was able to react quicker than the other person. My rats are only going to be in these cages for a few more weeks. They are currently in The Rat Manor by Petco but in 6 weeks are moving into a Double Critter Nation.

My girls are WAY worse. They know I can't shut the door if they're hands are in it and all three of them gang up and cling to the door frame. :gaah: I've pinched fingers at least 4 times. :emb:

Ok i do have saline (I had to use it to clean one of my girls' cyst). Where can I get Baxedin and what is it?

When I want to close the doors on the cage I've trained my rats to move to the back with a handful of cheerios thrown there and say move move. Now they go to the back with just the words. Sorry about your sweetie but it doesn't look that bad to me. Just keep it clean and the cage too so he doesn't drag his tail in messes.

Oh wow. That's a great idea. I'll try that. I don't know how well it'll work but it's definitely worth a try! :giggle:

Oh, that sucks. I try to stick mine on the farthest corner/shelf and quickly shut it. >.>

Victoria- I wasn't implying that the cage is bad, or that it's her fault! Heck no!
