So while I was cleaning the cage this morning, I noticed that Harry's face is swollen. He's been sick for a while and we thought he might have PT. I took him to the vet, and because he wasn't showing typical signs (balance issues and he doesn't fail the cheerio grab test) The vet thought he was just getting old, his symptoms were thinning hair, poryphrin discharge around his eyes, lethargy and I get a "I don't feel good" feeling from him. But he's been eating and drinking and grooming him self just fine. We put him on 21 days of baytril just incase, and he really seemed to improve for a while. This morning though, his face is very swollen. He wont let me look at his teeth, but he's never had issues before.

You're gonna have to look at the teeth. I know he's not letting you, but do it by force(gently). Get someone to hold him and open his mouth. Swollen face is often a teeth issue. :sad3:

There are his teeth. It's not a great pic, but he really didn't like me touching his face... Now he's mad and won't pose for a picture

I'll try to get a better pic. He has some gunk or something stuck in between. The top of one is black, but they are straight. He won't hold still for a pic tho

Hmm...I know it's impossible if he isn't letting you, but maybe that gunk is bothering him? do you knowif it's like a thing growing on him, or is it removable? You could try to get it out with your nail or something...

His face looks a lot like Cera's did initially, and she wound up with an abscess and needing a teeth trim...

If you can get a clearer shot, that would help a lot. :)

I took another look at harry's mouth today... and I noticed what looks like a 3rd front tooth growing backwards... on the other side of his mouth. He's still not a fan of me looking in his mouth, but i tried to get a video of said 3rd tooth thing.

ok, so I googled a bit, and this is what I found

It comes from an article on rat fan club, and its written by debbie d.... and it says that sometimes they only partially gnaw their teeth, forcing it to grow backwards!!! I hope i'm not noticing this too late. I can only immagine what would happen. Hopefully I can get to the vet tomorrow, but I work until 4pm. If not they are open sunday, and hopefully Dr. Combs will come in for me.

Any suggestions on what I should do until then?

I think if he survived this long, he should be fine till tomorrow...
And I think it's not too late. They should be able to just fix it, I mean, it is teeth. I doubt they've grown into his tounge/gum(that happens...). If not, then you just might have to feed him food from a blender... either way, I think he should be fine. ;3
