Everything's all set to get my little Sophie spayed this Friday. After a quick (and $90!) pre-spay exam, the vet has deemed her healthy and old enough for the procedure. She weighed in at 306 grams which the vet says is about normal for being 19 weeks old.

Hehe, she was an absolute brat for the vet though - she kept squirming her way back to me. :giggle:

Anyhoo, looks like the next several weeks are going to be quite busy with the newly neutered boy getting picked up this weekend, Sophie getting spayed, and intros once everyone is healed up (and completely de-spermed).

*Bounces nervously*

This is the first preemptive surgery for my furkiddos - all the others have been reactionary for lump removals and amputations. I'm extremely anxious for Friday, but I want to give my Sophie to have the best life possible, and I know that spaying will help down the road.

It just feels a bit odd sending in a perfectly healthy critter in for surgery. I know though that she'll be in the best hands with my vet - he's operated on 4 of my hamsters and my rattie Alice, and they all came through with flying colors. Here's hoping that everything will go smoothly on Friday.

Got a call from the vet, and everything went smoothly! Going to pick up my baby girl in a couple of hours.

The vet did mention though that her uterus was very small and underdeveloped ... her bad genetics perhaps?

Sophie is back home, and is currently rooming with Millie in the "convalescent room" - its a single-level SuperPet guinea pig cage that works out great for intros and post-surgery sequestering. Since my baby is sporting a two-inch incision, she'd be better off with the mellowest of the bunch (Millie) for the next several days.

Anyhoo, pickup of Mini-eye has been postponed to next weekend when Sophie hopefully heals up more.
