as the title says something is wrong with sniznitt, but we don't know what. we were in to the dr today but even still we don't knw what's going on here.

the symptoms:
labored breathing
light loose body but strong
can hold himself up well and will walk slowly but isn't crawling
does not display poofy fur or sunken sides as indication of any pain
the lungs sound clear
the breaths are full, not short or rapid
sporadic open mouth breathing
very pale ears, toes (almost white) and tail but no blue tinge
heart beats are strong and steady BUT at half the speed it should be
no signs of tenderness anywhere
slight porphine at the nose with occasional small bubbles
sudden onset. he was playing and bouncing and hand wrestling yesterday afternoon
cool to the touch when he hasn't been cuddled up for long
switches from desperation to be held to complete lack of interest in surroundings
his eyes are squinty, but that seems to be a normal sign of illness and he is obvisously not feeling well.
19 months old

with the lungs sounding clear and breathing being full as well as no blueish tinge anywhere, we don't think this is an infection in the lungs. the paleness, coolness and slow heart rate lend concern to the circulation but with the heart rate being slower but the beat steady and strong and lack of fluid sounds anywhere regular heart medications such as enaphil and lasix would be inappropriate. the best guess from the dr was anemia but with the sudden onset of it there is concern for internal bleeding, however there is no hard masses anywhere and there are no visible injuries. he has also not been out of the cage (one level CN) to be injured either, so no one could of sat on him nor could he have fallen from any great distance. i considered possible poisioning from inappropriate food scraps being feed by the kid but we don't have anything in the house that would be harmfull if fed to the boys and squidge, the gorby guts is not ill n the slightest.

as i was typing this sniznitt died. squidge is now alone at 19 months. i don't understand what happened and i don't know what to do. any suggestions on what sniznitt had would be helpful at least for piece of mind, we will be doing a post mortem later today

I'm so very sorry for your loss... have you considered a pituitary tumour? He's at the right age. Make sure your vet checks for that when doing the post.

he couldn't have fallen from any distance that would of caused this much damage, even if he fell wrong like squidge did not too long ago and ended up with a concussion. i'm taking sniznitt to the vet now for the post mortem.

I'm so sorry you lost your boy Sniznitt without really being able to know how to help him. Did you find out anything in the post mortem that would indicate what happened? I would have thought heart problems with those signs. I hope Squidge isn't too sad.

not yet. they werent able to do it then, but its scheduled for monday morning. i'm thinking it would be something with the heart too or at least the circulation. i just don't know what.

squidge is holding on fairly well. hangs out with me a lot now. we're working on arrangements for him though.
