IN another thread I mentioned my rescue girl, ex-snake bait, who we are calling Hera. After a long, unsuccessful battle with sneaking her antibiotics into a litany of yummy things, we took her in to the vet to get her doxy as an injection. Continued baytril orally at home.
She got the injection Thursday. Has been taking the baytril OK. The sneezing seems to have cleared up, but her breathing seems to get worse and worse. Yesterday and today she seems to have gone downhill so quickly. I believe she is still eating, but I'm already worried she may not be interested in her meds later this evening.
I am assuming she's probably been sick all her short life, and may have scarring and/or lung abscesses. This evening, she seems so bad off that I am torn as to whether or not we should tough out the night or take her in to the e-vet to be put to sleep.
Our local e-vet is good for 2 things with ratties - shooting them up full of abs, and having them pts. Hera is already on abs.
At the earliest, I could take her in for an emergency visit to my vet tomorrow afternoon. My vet is ok, but often I need to go in and firmly ask them to do this or that. I don't know what to ask them to do now. Do I demand steroids and more abs (she'd be due for another doxy shot wed or thurs.) Or do what?
Hera seems to have gone downhill so quickly. The first few days home I thought the lethargy was just her recuperating from her traumatic few days in the snake tank. Now I'm not so sure, and wonder if it would simply be kinder to let her go.
I donot have internet, am stealing it from neighbors atm, I can view any responses to this on my phone but am unable to respond by phone, so I'm hoping I've provided enough info in this post that no one has to ask too many questions, just hopefully give some advice. Will steal more internet tho' if it's imperative.
