one of my boys has been sneezing off and on- nothing else, no lung sounds, no porphy eyes, good appetite, etc

I haven't been able to figure out what sets off the sneezing, but it's been about a week now and no change, either way

could he have allergies?

and if so, what do I do for him?

hmm I don't think so, the relative humidity in here is 45%

I keep the temp low and have containers of water all over the house to raise the humidity, it's very rarely dry here

there's a lot of dust, though, I'll check the filters on the air purifier and see if they need to be vacuumed

I'd keep an eye on him. Or boost his immune system with echinacea. If he still continues to sneeze, doxy might be a good choice for just sneezes. I had a couple of boys many years ago, all they did was sneeze and doxy cleared them up.

I think I have some doxy, I'll check

they are all getting Green Mush now, I don't know if that helps the immune system or not, do you know?

Does your green mush have spirulina? There's been some issues with spirulina , some contains neurotoxins, can cause muscle breakdown one most recently, liver cancer. But that's definitely not causing the sneezing.
If the sneezing goes on much longer, try the doxy.

I thought all Green Mush was the same? are there different kinds?

this does say it has spirulina, but it says it's "vegan, wild crafted and 100% pure"

he's got a porphy nose now, is the doxy still ok or will he need Baytril too, now?

I would just do doxy for now.

ok
he was making this weird noise, like a squeak, I think his nose was stuffed up?

his appetite is fine and all that, he's just got a runny nose now to go with the sneeze

poor fella, so this like a cold?

OK i had written up a whole post to go with this and it's gone
:gaah:
I'll try again later

basically he's about the same
i'm giving him doxy twice a day

the only rats i had who had URIs' got very sick, very fast

does a URI ever come on slowly?

It can come on slowly.

Are the sneezes dry or wet?

wet

there's a number of factors involved, a new tenant moved in and although this is supposed to be a non smoking bldg, from the very first day she's ignored that rule

it seems his sneezing coincides with her smoking in the house

the landlord went out and she was smoking again, and now he's sneezing like crazy

he was fine all day!

i am so mad

Oh dear... Can you smell the smoke as well? That's so unfair to you and to your pets.
Do you have an air filter thingie in the room?

I have an air purifier and it helps some but this is a large apt, very spread out and very drafty/poorly insulated

it's the old balloon frame construction- not sure if that was ever used in Canada but what it means is the outside shell of the bldg was made first, and then the floors were put in, so there's no fire block between the floors- If I were to put a hole in my wall, I could look right down to the first floor, or actually, I believe, down into the basement.
This type of construction is no longer legal because it's so dangerous, fire rapidly spreads thru the bldg without those fire blocks between the floors-
Air- polluted or not- also travels from floor to floor so much easier.

the smoke comes up thru the pipes first, and collects under the kitchen sink, depending on where in the bldg the person is smoking.

it is very hard to clear it out, it took all night with windows open and fans on.
I"m exhausted, I can't sleep because I'm worried that this idiot is gonna start a fire

and I don't think I"d make it out of here because I know I could not leave with out my kids
I could not leave them behind, and you only have 3 mins at most to get out of a bldg on fire, from the time the smoke detector goes off (IF it does)

the most recent fire on this street, the smoke detectors did not go off.

so um yeh, sorry I am so stressed out by this.

I do know one thing now, though, Owen is so sensitive to the odor, if he's sneezing its' the first notice I have that there's something foul in the air

Any chance of your building manager doing something about the woman smoking?
don't have a manager, it's just three apts and the owner/landlord lives on the second floor

this is the second time he rented to a smoker, and she would smoke in the house from time to time too, but she was on probation and in danger of losing her 2yr old son, so she would go out on the porch to smoke most of the time

the owner has put me in a terrible spot- he told the new tenant that if she smoked, I would smell it for sure, so she's under the impression that *he's* ok with smoking but I'm not

no,that's not the case: he expects me to call him if anyone smokes in the house, because he has a special insurance rate for not allowing smoking, and he doesn't want to die in a fire either. He survived a horrible motorcycle accident; he lives a very healthy lifestyle now.
Having "cheated death" can change the way you live and what risks you're willing to take.

so I don't know what's going to happen
there's been no smoking since Thursday night....
but I'm constantly on edge about it.
and not too happy about that, esp since I wanted to move to this apt myself but couldn't afford the heat
:p

Don't worry about what she thinks for telling on her. I mean really, you guys have porches, makes it very easy to smoke outside.

Sorry you're dealing with all this crap :(.
