I have 3 unneutered boys (brothers) living in one cage, Teddy, Bruno & Oscar. Since Teddy & Bruno were babies (I have had them from birth), they have always been very skittish. They never particularly enjoy being held (Both have always been very much a "I'll come sniff you on my own terms then scamper off"). When I pick them up they are fine, but if I try to give them scritches or anything they will squeak, they want no part of it. They loved to be picked up, I come home and they are waiting in the door way of the cage saying "take me out", they just don't like to be cuddled, or scritched and they just like to get up to get taken out of the cage, or put back in. Even when they clean each other or anyone cleans them, you always get a big squeak. Oscar is fine, it's only Teddy & Bruno. Just wondering if anyone else has expienced this?

It's probably just their personality, some are cuddlers, some are not. As long as they are happy together and to come out and see you.

I know they are not cuddlers. But they always squeak if you give them scratches, or if they are being cleaned ..just wondering if this is normal?

My vet checked them over when I got them treated for mites, looked over their skin and whatnot, but couldn't find anything that would cause the squeaking. They hate you picking at their fur/skin.

I have a few who squeaks for nothing, if they're not sick I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's just their personality like Rachael said.

Rats squeak when they protest. I've a few that squeak all the time, I call them my talkers. There's nothing to worry about with the squeaking. The skittish part is probably part of their personality, extra socializing could help.

Thanks!
They love people, as soon as they see you they go crazy, they just don't like to be picked up so much.
There 3 brothers are total opposites.
