I'm SO bad... it's been crazy with a massive fibromyalgia flare. The reason behind not knowing about needing a rat sitter until now is that my SISTER ::glares in her direction:: kept hemming and hawing about when she could leave work and when she had to be back.
Well, we FINALLY know! So we're going up to my grandmother's from the 23rd to the 27th (but it might be late on the 27th, which is why I put the 28th as the pickup date). Fortunately we are driving, but we're stopping in Kingston on the night of the 23rd, and finding a motel that takes rats is... yeah. :wallbang:
Now, theoretically I could put a massive truckload of food and water in there and leave them... but that just gives me the squeamies, besides being morally objectionable! Especially with Cera's teeth. She's off meds, and there's no more abscess (yay!!!), but it's one of those things where it's best to keep an eye on her, one of those 'just in case' scenarios. She's eating solid food normally, her teeth are just... weird. Ducky, meanwhile, has been living it up with her sister's Ensure-laden diet and has turned into quite the little pear!!
So yeah... I would do drop off and pickup, no commuting needed, they would come in a travel cage which is fine if they get a bit of out-time each day (or if you have a spare cage...). They're both exceedingly polite and good-natured, they seem to adore meeting new rats and people (or just sniffing at them from across the room!). I would certainly bring food and treats for Christmas, all of the remaining medications that Cera was on (knock on wood) as well as a donation for their care! I guess the only other note is that they aren't spayed, so keeping them away from manly men is sadly something that must be done. :cheeky:
If during the day doesn't work for the 23rd, I could drop them off on the 22nd too, or even tomorrow if absolutely necessary! I do realize too that with Christmas etc. anyone who takes them might be gone for a day or two, but a day or two alone to me is fine, it's the four or five days that scare me!
