And the worrying begins! He's a big rat, and I don't know how old he is.

He needs to be neutered so that he can be introed to the girls, two of whom are unspayed and too old to be done.

He is such a sweetie that I feel guilty doing this to him!

And, by the way, for those of you who remember his rescue thread. he is definitely not diabetic! Certified by a vet, who did a random sugar test on his urine.

LOL

all the best for tomorrow, Simon

Just called. Simon hasn't had his surgery yet. I feel so guilty about leaving him in a carrier for so long. Poor sweetie looked agitated when I put him in there this morning. I will really make it up to him tonight.

Awww he will be ok. I think mine do better in a smaller area at the vets office. Well wishes from us to him!

Simon is fine, just had his surgery this afternoon. It will be so good to bring him back home!

Thanks for all the good wishes. Now we can hope for an abscess-free recovery.

Update: picked him up at five, so he was still oozing a bit. Vet checked him again and pronounced him OK to go. So I settled him in at home. He seemed really glad to be back. I had to go back out, but am heading home now.

Poor Simon was very uncomfortable last night, although he ate a little. The vet and I discussed the pros and cons of giving codeine.

This morning Simon took his meds easily -- there was a good stiff dose of Metacam-- and he had really perked up an hour or so later. My husband called to let me know that he was active again and looking almost back to his normal self.
