I'm in Illinois right now, so I only have contact to my rats via talking to the guys at home. This afternoon Monkey went into 3 seizures in 5 mins. He has been on 0.5 ml of Prednisolone 2x a day. I do not know the concentration, but the vet is supposed to call us back with that information. He started showing signs of PT just after I left on my trip (July 9) and has been steadily improving on the steroid.

I have no experience with seizures, is there something I should be looking for or doing?

He's continuing to have seizures, I'm not convinced he will make it. Poor guy.

I'm not fully convinced he has PT, it came on really fast, but I wasn't there, and my good vet is out of town, so I really can't know for sure.

Monkey is continuing to have rapid seizures. He's on the way to the vet, but I have a feeling its a one way trip. Poor boy! He's been doing so well.

Monkey has been given Diazapram rectally, but he is showing no signs of improvement. They are afraid to give it to him orally due to the high risk of him aspirating it. It looks at this point as if he will have to be PTS. Sorry boy.

When I left on this trip I knew I was going to loose rats before I came home. I just didn't think it would be my second youngest rat (at 22 months old). Darwin, my youngest at 21 months, is sneezy too.

Monkey was PTS after no signs of improvement. I'm thankful that there were loving people around him to his last moment, and he was humanely cared for at the end. I wish I could have been there, but life doesn't always work that way.

His half brother/uncle Harvey sorely misses him. So does Darwin, the two of them have been together since they were babies. (Harvey was adopted later).

I'm so sorry.. seizures aren't something that we hear about being treated commonly like respiratoriy disorders. Maybe cause seizures aren't common and if they occur it's usually in an old kid? But they sure happen. Maybe there isn't much discussion cause there's not much you can do?
Leads me to ask actually if anyone has ever had a rat treated with antiseizure meds?

My Pinta was only a few months old when she had rapid seizures that changed her from a normal, healthy girl to barely alive the next morning. When the decline is that rapid, I just don't think there's much to be done :(
