Allie is just over 1 1/2 years old. When I adopted her a couple of weeks ago she already had a small tumour, and it was growing. So today she had a tumour removal and spay.

And she is OK! :joy: I never stop worrying when a rat is having surgery.

Worse yet, I felt so terrible putting her in a container alone. There was no way to explain to her what was going on. Poor little girlie had lost her lifelong cagemate a few days before she was posted for adoption, and she must have been afraid at being all alone again.

Tonight I will make it up to her with lots of TLC.

ETA: I never saw her alive again. See last post on this thread

SQ picked her up for me so that she would not have to wait for me to get there after work. She's doing OK, hasn't (yet) chewed out her stitches, and she will soon be back in with her new friends.

Lexi has built an impressive toilet paper nest in Allie's absence

My dear Allie died suddenly about five hours after surgery. SQ rushed her in, but she was dead by the time of arrival. The vet did a quick necropsy to see if there was any obvious problem, but there was not. The incision was already healing well, there was no excess blood in the abdomen, no problem with adhesions. From the description of her behaviour just before she died, I would guess that her heart gave out on her. I have to remember that her cagemate, probably a sister, had died a few days before I adopted Allie. she was a pet store rat, with all that implies.

I am feeling so sad. She had been with me less than a month, but we really loved her.

Allie is a wonderful sweet active curious girl who loves others.
She had a much too short but wonderful life with you and her new friends.
Allie will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her

:hugs:
