Tuppence died very suddenly. My boyfriend's parents had been looking after curly and tuppy whilst we moved into our new place, she's good with Rats because she's had a lot of them before. Anyway, she rung us 3 days ago to say that Tuppence was looking a bit poorly, the next day worse, until yesterday it got bad to a point when I was going to come back to look at her and take her to the vet, but she rung us before I got there to say she had gone. I'm really confused, it sounds like she had the symptoms of a PT, but I've only known it with my girls that it has come up THAT fast, it doesn't seem possible that it would finish a Rat in 3 days, but that seems to be what happened to both Queenie and Tuppence, the only warning we got beforehand was mild poryphrin.

just Curly and Lady left now. They sometimes have out time together, but Lady prefers to just spend time with us, and is only up for a little while anyway, she sleeps for all but maybe 2-3, and we're always playing with her in that time. I think curly needs buddies, but I really don't think we should get new Rats until we know where we're going to be living. Right now it looks as though Lars' mum is going to get her some cage mates, i really don't want her to go to a new home, but i know she needs other Rats.

Tell me, have any of you noticed that your Rats who have had PT's were similar in character at all? Tuppy was very similar to Queenie (laid back to a fault sometimes) and I was just wondering.

On a happier note, Lady is now 2yrs and 2 months, and looking very healthy (if very fat and lazy lol)

I'm so sorry. But no, I there is no similarities in character for PT. And it can hit fast. I had a girl once, develop the symptoms one morning and she was gone that afternoon.
Any chance you could foster rats for Curly? I would also try intros again with Lady. They really shouldn't be living alone.

We need a complete Ratty upheaval, really. i'll make sure it gets sorted. I'm going to do intros with Lady and Curly properly again, that's the best option.

Oh, and we can't really foster more Rats, either, no where to put them! it's a very, very awkward situation. :( fingers crossed for Lady and Curly intros. It was ideal before because Tuppy was good with Lady.

are most intros successful with time and determination?? i don't want them to go to a new home :sad3:

I'm so sorry.

In my experience as long as the rats don't jump into a ratball fight as soon as they see each other then with patience and determination they should be able to be intro'd successfully. Even though your girls already know each other I would start from step 1 with intros (in a neutral space) and do the bedding/hammock switching ect. I hope it all works out.

And I forgot to add that you have to be prepared for some minor fighting but as long as no blood is drawn remember to leave them to work it out.
