Sadly,Rory has started PT.
A few weeks ago, Rory started to slow down, he started to lose hind end mobility and there was a change in behaviour, he started to become more cuddly, more loving towards me, he is 30 months old now so naturally I thought it was old age.
2 days ago, he started to have more problems getting around, not being able to do the ramp so I set him up with his water and food around him.
Today... Rory is listless, circling, knuckling, biting his Ensure instead of licking and has quite a bit of porphyrin around the eyes. He pretty much has all the symptoms. I can't believe in a matter of a day, all the symptoms came forth.
I'll be bringing Rory in to the vet today, to get his bromocriptine and his hopefully dex.
I'll be keeping tabs in this thread.

Rory just had his first dose of dex.
I was talking to Julien and he told me that dexamethasone helps regulate epinaphrine which makes sense in why it works with pituitary tumours because the tumour probably disrupts the production of epinaphrine which is essential to most bodily functions.
I'll be starting bromo in an hour. I don't want to give the two meds together. I want it's full effectiveness for Rory.

Sorry to read about Rory! What a sweet face  I am amazed at the first picture of Rory and then the second one!! Very scary how fast this all happens!

*reaching into special energy stash and putting Rory's name on it and sending it off to him* :hugs:

good luck with the meds...It seems to be helping with the other shacker ratties

Rory has some really bad diarrhea, I don't know if this is an effect of meds and which med, the bromo or dex? Or could it be his new diet of Ensure?
I've made him some mushed up blocks and baby cereal.
Rory comes out to eat and goes into a corner for his "wet" poops.
His moving about seems to be a good sign.

So much hate for PT. So very much.

Also, it seems on one of our rats (Gregory) Doxy/Baytril is fine, but Baytril/Zithro tears up his stomach, lots of runny poops. Rory might not react well to one or the other.

EDIT: Corrected typo.

I bet the poor little blagger was hungry, and gorged on Ensure...it can affect my crews like that as well. My oldies get both a bowl of ensure and either baby cereal, or baby cereal/HT mix.

Rory was very hungry this morning... he's always out in front now, better than yesterday, curled up in his cube not coming out at all. Rory travels the whole cage, not exactly circling anymore. I washed him up good, he's still having very wet poop, I'll have to pick him up some probiotics to add to his Ensure/baby cereal/mushed up block mix.

Ensure tends to give ours little hard black poops. When gregory was bad with the wet poops, we were doing banana and soda crackers to no effect. Eventually had to take him off the Zithro, and that made them go away. Don't forget the brat diet! =)

That's right, Ensure does the little hard poops to all my rats that's been on it. It's got to be the bromo or dex. He's still not pooping right. Maybe the Ensure will start to harden it up. I hope.
