So it begins. I know of 2 veterinary clinics that do exotic care in the area. My boys haven't had any health problems yet, but the oldest, Grady, is nearing his 1st birthday (his guessday anyway) so I want to get everyone in for a checkup and start a relationship with a vet in case any health problems do pop up. Here they are:
All Creatures Great And Small in Monsey, NY apparently soon to be Pomona, NY http://www.acgsvet.com/index.html
Valley Cottage Animal Hospital in Valley Cottage, NY http://valleycottageanimalhospital.com/index.php
I have emailed both for info on their rat care and prices. So far I have heard back from VCAH that only one of their vets, Dr. Atkins, treats small animals. And that the price for one rat checkup is $66.50 and that I could inquire about neuter prices when I brought in my rats. (None of my boys needs a neuter, but I had asked if the vet(s) were experienced performing spays and neuters on rats, just in case.) I am still waiting for a response from ACGS. VCAH is technically a 24/7 e-vet, but since just the one vet handles small animals I gather that will be of little use to me if I do have an emergency. VCAH is where my bf's mom takes her dogs. I am concerned that they will be more likely to overcharge me since they seem larger and more commercialized. I don't mind paying, I just want the boys to have the best care available to them. Will update when the other vet gets back to me.
