Rhys's Breathing...again!

Well Rhys is still having trouble breathing. He has been on baytril for over a week with very little improvement. I am wondering if its more then just a respiratory issue. Below is a video of my poor little Rhysie Poof....

I am going to make him a vet appt tomorrow, I just wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts....

Aw, the poor darling!

It sounds (disclaimer: I'm no expert!) like it's at the front of his respiratory tract - rather like he's gonna sneeze any minute.

Does he have a lot of chest sounds?

I'd say that's nasal congestion... get him on Doxy. I've noticed that Baytri alone doesn't seem to cut it when they have that. Even Zithromax alone doesn't do it... but doxy seems to get it. My Blue is on meds right now for exactly that sound/congestion.

Well we are back from the vet, he would not give me doxy because he felt it was unnecessary. He said if it continued he would set me up with a nebulizer, he thinks they work better for respirtory issues.

I also brought Teddy along because he is having odd hairloss so I was thinking mites...I asked for revolution because I really didn't want an injection of ivermectin...they didnt have revolution buthe said I have to weigh all my rats and give him a list so he can give me proper doses for oral ivermectin...

That's too bad about the doxy.
But at least you are getting the oral ivermectin. That's what I treat my rats with and works great.

how long is the "see if it continues" time period? did he tell you to just contine u with the baytril? what dose is he on atm?

Well I assume about 1 week more or so...He's on 22.7 ml/mg Baytril (thats the concentration)...Rhys is taking .35 ml per day
