Does anyone please have a tube of kitten revolution they'd be prepared to sell and mail to me? I'd really like to pre-treat our girls before we take them out in the yard this summer, just in case, and buying 3 tubes (after paying for a vet visit) will really cut into our emergency fund, and with Olive's tumor I can't allow that to happen right now. Anyone? I'm in B.C. if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!

You can buy ivermectin ((horse wormer paste), the 1.87% kind http://tinyurl.com/88e965w and give your rats each 1 uncooked grain of rice sized portion once a week for 3 weeks. I use a toothpick to pull a dose out of the tube. )

I have heard that an olive oil "bath" kills mites on contact.

Thanks for the idea, but that isn't a preventative treatment. That's for if they already have mites.

I'm looking for something to put on them to keep them from getting fleas/mites/lice while they are outside. That's how Revolution works for cats/dogs. Does it not do that in rats? I thought it would offer 30 days of protection same as for bigger pets.

Anybody know?

Yes, we thought it would be fun to take them out with us to play when we're outside. We've seen so many gorgeous pictures of rats outdoors that we wanted to try it with ours, but were hoping to make sure they were protected from little creepy crawlies first.

It does, but why will they be outside? Just out for a walk on the lawn or something?

Yes, just for an adventure for them/us.

Hmmm...I honestly wouldn't worry about it...it would be a rare thing for them to get buggies from just being on grass...I mean it could happen but I think it might be overkill to treat your rats with Revo just in case for this. They are unlikely to meet a wild rat with a parasitic load, and no louse is going to let go of his tasty meal to land on grass if a wild rat has run over it.

Make sure you watch for any wounds on your rats (botflies are nasty larvae) before putting them out.

You could order the Revo online (it takes about 2 weeks to arrive from AUS) but you can order it without a prescription.

Watch out for predators - birds, cats, etc and other animals that might attack
In this province large birds have been seen to grab a kitten in a second and that is it, they are gone. :(
And coyotes will come up onto doorsteps and porches to grab a small dog :(

We've got the same situation here with wildlife in B.C. so we have no intention of leaving them unattended (not sure who would anyway...no fun if you can't see what they're doing). We are lucky that our yard is fenced to a coyote would have to go OVER the fence to get to us (so we'd see it). And we don't have any trees around big enough for birds of prey to hang out in and line up for the attack...they'd have to fly quite a ways and we'd see them coming too. I'm just worried about them catching something (bugs) but maybe that's less of an issue than I thought. I'm used to dogs who you absolutely must treat here, we have a ton of fleas.

I've ordered some just to be on the safe side, but I think I'll wait to use it unless/until I see them having issues. Thanks for the info!
