Red/yellow eye

My 2 year old rat has been blind since he was about a year old, cataracts is what the vet called it. Now one of his eyes is a little sunk in and red, I noticed last night that its yellowish. It doesnt seem to bother him. It hasnt effected his activity or eating. I have been out of work and cant afford a vet trip right now. I know thats terrible but i had to have surgery. What can i do to make his eye better and how do i dose him? hes my sweet boy and i just want him better.
