Not all rats will pick up on the training. Some take longer to train too.
But it's pretty much you finding the right spot where they like to go poop and putting a litter tray in that area. Then all day long, you scoop up any errant poop and place in the litter tray. If you catch a rat pooping in the tray, you reward with a treat.

We started training our girls when they would go into the play area outside the cage, we put a tray with the bedding and they would go to it as that is what was in the bottom of their cage. We then started taking all the bedding out of the cage bottom and using a tray with just the bedding, the rest was blankets, They took to it real easy and I hope this idea helps you as well.

Now ours live in a great CN cage and use the litter box all the time :0)

I never took the time to litter train Crank and Pickle i'll admit to that.
Got too busy trying to get them to love me. But at least they picked their own pooping corners so i don't have to clean all over all the time. :)

When i was a little girl my boys were litter trained tho. I was barely 7 and didn't know what i was doing but when i would see poop i would throw it back in their cage.
Oh and you know that face they make when they go in a Poop-trance? Mine did that, they would stare into nothingness and not move and just.... poop. So poop trance!

When i saw them do that i'd put them back in the cage all the time and eventually they understood and just went in there.
