Well, rats can get ringworms the same way a cat or dog can....from another animal, or from touching something where another with ringworm had been. Personally, I think it would be quite hard for rats to get ringworm any other way....to be honest, i wouldn't believe they could.

With that said, if you rats have it, you could definitely get it.

When I was a kid, I picked up a stray kitten and was snuggling with it. Two days later, i had a nasty patch of ringworm on my neck. My mom thought it was poison oak and put calomine lotion on it. BIG mistake...that just made it get BIGGER. I had a horrible summer that year. :sad3:

ringworm isn't biased against any host :laugh4:

It usually presents as a big bare oval on a rat's back, often scaly. But its not hard to treat, you just have to be very careful while doing it. :)

Daytona got it twice in his short life, as did I while treating him...
it's a bare spot on the skin that resebles a ring. It is scaley and gross looking, sometimes red/pink too
We treated with an anti-fungal and were good to go!

ringworm also tends to attack immunocompromised people same as colds and flus, so if you get run down or stressed you are that much more likely to have a outbreak of it
