So, I have 8 sweet rattie boys and they love to romp around, explore, and cuddle together. Occasionally, I will take out one rat at a time and let them hangout with me on my bed while I'm reading or working. They love getting scritches and soft pets, but I find they usually spend most of their time on the bed exploring and running around like they would if their 7 other buddies were there. This led me to wonder if rats enjoy spending time by themselves sometimes?

Has anyone noticed any of their rats seeming to enjoy occasional solitude?

I have noticed some of my rats would wander off and be alone at times, either in the cage or outside during play but then, a buddy would come along and they would cuddle anyways. This is also another reason why I recommend large habitats.

Mine often sleep in different spots, away from each other. Or they will play, explore, tear stuff up on their own. But of course if a friend comes along, they groom each other, then cuddle up.
