magi is not doing well. he is a big boy, big structured, and you can really see that now with all the weight he has lost. he's not interested in food much at all anymore though i can SOMETIMES interest him in some ensure and baby cereal. his breathing is very labored and it would seem that nothing we try can get that to clear up. he started chloranphenicol the other day and its still early yet to tell, but to me it doesn't seem to be working.

when the vet listened to magi's lungs on friday she said she was concerned that his lungs were consolidating. the lungs sounded clear, no rattle or other sounds but he's really laboring to breathe. however, she can't verifiy that without opening him up and she can't do that until after he's dead. so she said to try the other meds and see if that helps. there's still a few more to try. but i don't think its going to help. you get a feeling for these things after a while for some of them. and i think magi's time is coming close.

as i type this he is cuddled on my lap. when i woke up this morning, i saw him by himself on a lower level of the martin's, and he just looked wrong. i picked him up and he was so cold even though the apartment is very warm and it feels like summer in here. he is still with us, he even shuffles, and he is warming up on me, but i don't think it will be much longer now. i think he will be gone by today or tomorrow.

even before i could finish typing this he has started the panick-runs... :sad3:

Have you tried lasix or heart meds to test the CHF theory out? It seems you have quite a bit in your area. His heart may have been strained with all the bulk. :(

no, we haven't tried that. if he makes it until tuesday when his vet opens, i'll get him started on that and see if it helps. but he seems so far gone now, i don't know if it will do anything...

i have emailed his vet to ask about the lasix. i would call her directly, but i think that might be pushing the boundaries of our friendship. even the email i am unsure if i should have sent for the same reasons, but its magi, and none of the vets are open on sunday. i don't know if it will make a difference in the end though...

he died in my arms just a few minutes ago. rest well my bringer of gifts, your love is a highly treasured one. breathe easy now and be free, go say hi to the others on the bridge and i will watch for your return one day.
