We are going to need rat sitting for our 3 ratites at the end of Dec for a few nights. We usually take the rats to my sister and nephew who live an hour away. They have a guinea pig.

This time we have friends in our neighbourhood who are new rat owners. We both have females. Will it be stressful for the ratties to be in the same house? It is best to keep the cages in different areas?

Thank you!

Your rats will be a little stressed out going to a new place with new sounds and smells, but I don't think they would be more stressed with the smell of other rats. They will probably be curious about the new rats. I wouldn't put the cages right next to each other, as some rats are territorial.

Thank you!

I also think the longer drive is stressful, so having an option in the neighbourhood is great.

They will be stressed but usually rats are pretty good at adapting.
I would probably keep them in separate rooms more so for partial quarantining.

Thank you. I was thinking separate rooms for the same reason.

I don't think they will get let out much, but at least they will be in a rat friendly home.
