Not sure if this is the right place for this....

I know a lot of you here set aside a certain amount of money each month toward future vet bills so that you have a little cushion for emergencies. Currently I'm in the process of re-drafting my own household budget and I want to start doing this as well. This whole fiasco I'm having with my dog's dental work is really driving it home how bad I need to start saving.

But anyway -- how much do you save a month? How much would you recommend having available at any time?

Right now I'm aiming to set aside $70 a month, and see how that goes....

EDIT:
Ahh, good call, it might be good to let you know what animals I have! XD I have four rats, a rabbit, a cat, and a chihuahua.

I usually just set aside whatever I can. Some months I have less to put aside, some months I have more. Like last month, with the holidays and all I didn't have very much to spare, but this month I'll have much more.

I think it might be a good idea to set aside as much as you can, so you have a bigger sum in case something happens in the near future, and then just add to it bit by bit?
