I made a vet appointment for miles lastweek due to sneezing/hiccuping that seemed excessive and man I'm glad I did because this weekend he started to develop gashes across his body. The first one I assumed was a fight, but then more appeared. He has about 5 random gashes now, two on/around his ears and I'm really worried. He is really puffed up and upset tonight. I really do not think these are fight related gashes. I also trimmed his nails, I haven't seen him scratching and the entire cage was treated for mites two weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone with experience with skin conditions has any ideas? I looked at pics of pyoderma and they don't seem to match. I tried to take pictures and the flash actually seemed to bug him so I'll get pictures later tonight when I can get my bf to hold him. they don't appear abscessed and don't seem to smell (but I'm sick so my sense of smell is off). Now he did have an abscess when I first got him, that was on his back and huge and didn't want to heal forever that was always filled with stinky fluid but that completely healed months ago so I don't think its related but I thought I would mention it. The hair from that one never grew back in completely!

Revolution measured into a syringe done by weight. This isn't the first time I've used it on him, he also got it when I first got him done the same way.

One of my rats had gashes, I thought it was from fighting. But I decided to treat them all with ivermectin and he healed up within a week and no more gashes since then.

she treated with Revo 2 weeks ago.

Rissa, do you still have the tube or the box you got it from? could it have been expired?

I checked it before I used it cause I couldn't remember how long I had it, it was good until 2012. The bf wouldn't hold him so I can try to get pics tonight after my appointment

Sorry to post and run, miles and his brother pinky went in to the vet. I'm glad I smelled everyones ears after spock because one of his ears smelled wrong with no other symptoms. They are both on abs, doxy and baytril, and pinky has ear drops. The vet asked me to do revo again in a week she likes to do two doses. She thinks that some of the gashes actually look like bite marks and while I don't agree I split the CN monday night with miles and pinky up top and mischief and mouse in the bottom and not a single new mark on miles. She asked if I wanted to neuter the aggressor and its something I have to think about because he is getting up there in age.

It's always good to get a vet check. Once I'm down in numbers, all mine will be going in every 6 months for a full checkup. Good thing you brought yours in.
Keep us posted on how they are doing.
