as some of you know, i adopted big ben from TAS south yesterday (http://www.ratshackforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&p=275803#p2758033). he was quite sneezy so he stayed in the basement with the dehumidifier running while my other two boys (isaac and armageddon) remained on the 2nd floor in my room in their CN.

ben went to the vet this morning, he does in fact have a respiratory infection and i have doxy and baytril for him :) i know he should stay separated from my healthy guys, but is keeping him in the same house a risk regardless of how far away from each other they are? i don't have air conditioning in my house so the air return vent in the basement is closed (in fact all the basement vents are shut, as well as the one in my room with isaac and armie). i change my clothes and douse my hands/arms in hand sanitizer when going between rats as well, i'm just worried that it's not enough :(

the vet is right next to the pet supply store my family recently bought and are preparing to open, so going back isn't an inconvenience at all .. should i get more baytril for my healthy boys and have them on a low dose for a week as a preventative measure? or am i being completely paranoid?

I don't separate my rats when they have myco. And I wouldn't treat the healthy one with meds either. I think your routine between the rats is good.

thanks! ben's only separated from the other boys cause he just got in so he's being quarantined before intros :D

Keep Ben downstairs, it's as good a quarantine as most of us can do. Give him a good week on the meds and once he's feeling better, you could start intros and give Big Ben some buddies.
