purple penis and puss?

so i picked up my boy pinky and looked at him and everything appeared normal except i saw a small dark spot at his sheath so i pulled it back and it was purple and there was puss coming out of it. not a whole lot but a little. he's drinking and eating normally. is there anything special i should clean it with?

Is it really pus? Did it smell infected or not?

I know when I had my boys they could look... "odd".. down there sometimes, for whatever reason. :? And there would othertimes be a thick-ish discharge, but I learned that it wasn't actually pus. It didn't smell too funky or infected, so I figured it was pretty normal.
This may or may not be what you're describing, but I just though I'd add my own experience.

did the pus come out of the "spot" or from the end of the penis? You may have a penis plug on your hands.

Boy rats get plugs when they are sick or being old and lazy, mostly. It's more of a waxy buildup. If you are seeing liquid/non-waxy discharge, there may well be an infection and you need abs quickly. Purple around the area when the sheath is pulled back seems fairly normal on our boys(and we check often, they get them now and then) its just the blood vessels near the surface.

it didnt smell as far as i could tell. the purple is what mainly worried me i usualy link purple with infections thanks for all the help guys i've only had rats for like a year and these guys like half a year

Some rats have purple penises. But the pus is troubling.

Something slightly similiar with one of my boys right now. He had a small lump above his penis, but it didn't seem like an abscess, there was no pus inside it, no smell, it sort of deflated, no discharge from it at all. He still has pus coming from his actual penis and seems to be urinating less. Not sure what it is yet.

well i checked him again and it was gone so maybe he just hadent gotten around to cleaning it off yet O.O
