I got a female rat from a pet store who turned out to be pregnant. Normally she is super lovey and gives me no trouble and today she not only bite me but took a literal chunk out of my finger. Is this normal behavior for a pregnant rat? I am not a breeder, i just kinda fell into this and wanna make sure she is ok and that I am doing the best I can for her so any advice would be awesome thanks

Some pregnant rats who were not properly socialized, especially one coming from a pet store/mill, can get hormonal and bite during pregnancy.

Sometimes when rats are pregnant they have a personality change. It usually goes away after the babies are weaned and gone. She may have just gone through a little change. It shouldn't be anything to worry about. To be on the safe side, if she's biting you now I'd be careful when she has her babies. She could be even more protected and bite you then too. Just watch out and don't scare her and let her know you're there before reaching for her. Like I said, her personality should go back to normal after the babies are weaned! She'll be a fuzz bucket again!
