So we just got home from the vet after Queen's neuter and I notice him doing owie stretches. The vet sent me home with Meloxicam which I am to start tomorrow since he already had it for today. So I just want to make sure this is normal. His sides aren't sucked in all the time and sometimes he sucks one side in more then the other. So any suggestion on how to make him more comfortable is appreciated (maybe giving him another dose of the pain killers?)

Thanks!

I've had the occasional male do the owie stretches. You can give the metacam a day after the surgery. He's already got some in his system.
Keep him warm and well hydrated. I give mine soymilk after surgery, they think they are getting a treat, anything to encourage drinking and eating.

One of my boys had owie stretches and I did call the vet (since I had no idea what he was doing at the time) and the vet had me bring him back in for more pain meds. Also, Jorats had excellent advice!

My boy Toby had owie stretches after surgery also, I called the vet and got 2 days worth of metacam and it worked well.

She was sent home with three days worth of metacam, but the vet gave him an injection that day as well. So he's got metacam, but is still doing owwie stretches. Though I hear he's better today!

He's alot better today. He had a good run around my bed earlier (since he spent the night in a hospital cage) and had hardly any owie stretches. The metacam is helping I think he just needed a good sleep to start the healing process.

Ugh this neuter is just not going well for my little man. We had to go back to see the vet today because his penis wouldn't go back in its sheath. Poor guy had to be knocked out so they could make sure there wasn't a hair wrapped around it or anything. Luckily there wasn't so the vet is assuming it has to do with the slightly abnormal swelling on one side of the scrotum. Also while he was out they decided to clean the incisions and reglue them just for good meansure as one of the sides was starting to come apart. So we were sent home with more metacam, baytril and some lube in the event that it happens again (all free of charge because they are assuming it is neuter related). I really, really hope this is the end of the problems for Queenie.

Poor guy, I hope things start looking up for him.
I am glad to say I am after having 2 neuters so far with no troubles *knock on wood*, hopefully it stays this way.

Aw poor little thing. It's not uncommon to have that happen with the penis after a neuter. It may happen a couple more times but the lube should do him up just fine. Sending you lots of healing vibes.
