Hi everyone! My rat has been having excessive porphyrin for the past week or so. I thought it was due to stress, but now in the past three days it has gotten to the point where his eye is shut sometimes and I notice a 'cloudy' effect in his eye mostly near the tear duct area. Friday I called vets in my area, but all of them are booked up. Emergency clinics are almost 2 hours away. What I have been doing is cleaning his eye with water and also with a saline solution. He seems pretty normal besides having this issue. I have noticed he sneezes once in awhile, but besides that I don't notice anything different. I really don't know what to do because I don't think I can travel almost 2 hours to a clinic or wait until a vet opens a spot in weeks. Is there anything I can do? I've been on a deep dive throughout many websites trying to find answers and thought I'd ask here for any help!

Personally this makes me think of a possible infection. Would keep trying to go to a vet.

Does he seem to be in pain or not?
I've called all the vets and still no openings, I have been giving him Vetericyn eye gel to see if that help. But he doesn't seem to be in any pain. He acts normally, eats, sleeps, wants attention and etc.
