Porphyrin ring around the eye.

It seems Miss Merial has an overactive tear duct. Will try to get a picture tonight for reference. She has beenhaving a porphyrin ring around her right eye for the last few days. No other signs of sickness, just the eye. I don't see any scratches, but I'm guessing she probably caught someone's toenail or something in the eyelid, hence the over production of the tears. Otherwise no eye injuries. Going to put some eye ointment later to help it heal. If it gets worse we'll be visiting the vet.

Really? Merial is young, just under a year. Never associated that with PT before. Dusty had tear duct issues but did not pass from PT problems.

I think it's a sign of stress, not PT, but with PT, some rats become quite stressed so they get the porphyin around the one eye.

Ahh gotcha, stress from the pressure and all. Makes sense.

She is looking better this morning. Was not willing to have her picture taken last night.
