Lexi is a sweet cheerful senior lady (probably over 2 1/2 years old), trucking along despite bad HED. She healed very well after surgery for a mammary tumour and some other little tumour, but her eyes have been porphy and her teeth don't match up any more. Today I took her in, only to discover that her teeth were massively overgrown. I feel terrible for not having noticed how bad they were.

When the vet put her under to trim the teeth he was concerned at how far apart the uppers are, and he wonders why they are that way. He is hoping that she doesn't have a growth on the upper palate. He couldn't aspirate anything there, so maybe there is no bad news, but it could be a bone tumour. I will be taking her in for a skull Xray.

As well, her cloudy right eye is not a cataract; the vet thinks it might be a corneal infection.

Poor Lexi! She has a good appetite and seems happy to crawl around. I don't know how she does it, with all those problems. I'm giving her lots of TLC. ** Nic & Jo, note that her favourite hangout is the CozyBoat!

It will be fun having to medicate six of them and still get to work in the morning.

Poor sweet Lexi. I've never seen a rat with separated top teeth. If something is separating her teeth, you would think she would be in some sort of pain. Rats adapt and accept their illnesses so well. We could learn from them.

Lexi is awesome. I've come to know her better since her more outgoing sister Maddy died. I will happily pass on all the scratched and kisses to her this evening.
