I noticed tonight that Poco has some congestion/clicking sounds going on so I want to pop him on meds.

I'm doing just baytril tonight, but of course wanted to add doxy, but I noticed on the rat guide it suggested to not give it under 4 months.

Has anyone given babies under 4 months doxy?

Thanks!

I would definitely put him on doxy if you feel the URI will not be cured by just baytril...considering baytril and doxy are both not supposed to be given to younger rats, and you're already giving one, there's not that big a deal.

So we just got back from the vet, and she doesn't like the noises he's making at all. He got a little worse overnight. So she actually gave him Zithro. She was not happy. And we'll check him in a week. *fingers crossed*

that is good. I know baytril and doxy cannot be used on young ones usually Amoxi. I only use this for mild sneezing when you know something is starting. If they are very ill and making a lot of noise. I go with baytril and doxy at small doses because they will die if they dont get better.

I forgot what the zithro dose was, but the baytril dose was like .15 or so (I think) so they're very small doses. Now I just have to figure out what to mix it with. Choc. syrup here we come!

Baytril and zithro are a good combo .... but you will want to make sure he is getting a high enough dose of both.
Zithro is 5mg/Ib to 15 mg/Ib .... so my vet perscribes 10 mg/Ib (1 Ib = 454.4 g)

Hope he is soon feeling better.
