My girl Harriet has been a little off lately. She's a year and four months old, unspayed. Recently I noticed she has been walking with her butt up in the air a little, the same way my two rats, Kino and Shane (her father), walked when they had pituitary tumors. She has also lost some weight, has stopped showing dominance, and has stopped licking me, which is really strange for her. Her fur is also a little puffy, and she sneezing quite a bit and wheezing some.
I started suspecting a pituitary tumor when I noticed how she was walking, acting less dominant, stopped licking, lost some weight and began sleeping more. All within a week or so. Shane was also a licker until he developed PT, he was a year and eight months old.
She can still balance fine, and uses her front paws normally however.
In her cage she sleeps a lot, but she still loves coming out for play time, and is the only of her cage mates to jump off my bed, and climb back up the side.
I haven't brought any new rats or products into the house in months, but I did bring a stray cat in, in June.
I'm planning on medicating all of my rats for breathing issues, as some are sneezing, but none of them are acting differently like she is.
Could this be a pituitary tumor, if not, what else? And what is the best method of treating it?
I can't remember what Kino was on for hers, but it worked for a few days, stopped, so we altered it, but it didn't help. Shane was pts before medicating him, because he went downhill so fast, before the vet appointment that I thought it was better to end his suffering instead.
