So when I had the babies out yesterday, I was picking up poop, and it was full of pinworms!!
Three questions:
Is this normal for rats from a breeder?
Looking at online dosage for the safeguard horse wormer it's 23mg/lb over 3 days correct?
Anyone know how many mg .1cc or 1cc is?

I have a couple tubes sitting around for my sheep, and a 1cc syringe :joy:

Rats do have pinworms but never enough for you to see in their stool. And from a breeder? YIKES! You need to contact this breeder and tell them. This breeder needs to do a full worming of their rats.
As for the meds... please bring your rat to a vet and get the right dosage. Since they are babies it's best to get the correct information.

That's awful from a breeder... :( I run a rescue and I've never had rats with worms, and I've picked up rats from some pretty horrid places.

we just went through worms. I honestly just walked into the vet, with a few rats and some poo samples, and asked them to help LOL. Usually most vets, will be just fine with you doing that, or calling them and asking. They gave me what I need for them, which was profender, but I don't think it does pin worms. They weighed the ones i had with, and told me what to use on the others since they were so much larger than the girls.

Atleast I know why these two girls are so small, can honestly say I'm not impressed with this though :redhot: Breeder will pay for the cost of worming them, so I'll be taking them to the vet this week if I can make it through the snow!!

It makes me so mad that she tried to pass off a rat that was infested with worms as the runt, and that's why she's small.

So I guess it still holds true that there are no good breeders in Canada. :wrong:

Not impressed to hear about that...

Chelle, would that really mean its not a runt? Couldn't Bell still be a runt..but with the addition of worms as well?
I'm not defending the breeder in this here..I'm just curious!

It could be a runt still but worms strikes me as highly unusual. Beachcomber would you mind taking another picture of all three of them together so we can compare the sizes better?

The ENTIRE litter was small, but Bell is definately the runt. All 3 are exactly the same age. I will not be buying rats from a breeder again, unless I ever plan on breeding, even then it won't be from Canada

Here's some size comparison pics, had to do 2 at a time cause 3 was too many :laugh4: I'll post their weights after we go to the vet.
