hey everyone!

i have been paranoid about lice, mites, or any parasites that live on rats. spookie and her babies do not scratch a lot and no scabs found. however, i am just worried because i have a phobia of bugs who live on mammals as hosts.

today i picked up a piece of paper and i saw a white crawling bug which either a termite or a lice. i am a clean freak and these things drive me crazy (and my housemates are extremely dirty- urgh :redhot: )

my question is, how do you know if your rats have parasites? she has no excessive scratching and scabs. i tried to look for crawling bugs, but can't find any.

am i being paranoid?

You would be able to see lice or fleas on her.

You can not see mites and skin scrapings are painful and do not give reliable results.
If you had a problem with mites, at least one rat with be scratching excessively so all would be treated with revolution. Babies need to be a certain age before being treated with revolution.

It does not sound like your rats have ecto-parasites.

You could always treat them with Revolution as a preventative measure. Dosed properly it certainly would do no harm. I'm sure that a treatment every 60 days would be more than adequate and it would put your mind at ease.
