Some people may remember me posting about Oreo's mass on his nose. I got a couple replies saying it looked like a keratin (sp?) cyst, and it was fine for a while.

It's gotten bigger, and his breathing seemed a little off so we took him to the vet where we were told it's a tumor.
He was put on baytril to see if it will improve his breathing, and the vet said to notify her if the tumor gets any larger or changes in any way.
It has, so he's going back on Thursday.

Joey and I have been debating on what to do about it. Oreo is 2 years old in February, and is otherwise healthy. But having the tumor removed (it's on his face) will cost quite a bit of money.

I'm just wanting to get some opinions.

It still looks like a keratin cyst. Can you remove, yank out the top part? It won't hurt him, it's like dried pus and usually easily removed.

Ew... haha.
Yeah I could try it. Would a saline press do the same thing without the whole pulling and yanking thing?

It would certainly soften it up a bit and make it easier to pull out.. I would have already tried to soften it and remove it, I'm terrible at leaving things alone. I guess that's why abscesses never last long here. I'm gross. :stickpoke:

That makes me want to puke, hahaha.
I'll make Joey do it. :giggle:

You sound alot like my mom. She doesn't understand how I can clean infected wounds and nasty stuff like that. The only thing is that.. if it's for a human I can't do it. But I'll do anything for an animal.

Best of luck to Joey in removing it! Let us know how it goes.

Then you apply pressure and that should stop it. But you should know soon enough if it's meant to be pulled out. It should come off with a bit of a pull but not a full on yank.

If it's NOT a cyst, but a tumor, it looks like it's ulcerated. When Echo had her mammary tumor, at some point it burst open on the side and had like a jagged hole in it that got infected pretty much overnight. Very nasty.

How does it smell? Does he have an "infected" odor at all?

Really hoping it's a cyst!

From the pictures it's hard to tell....is that spot like a scab *over* the bump, or does it go down *into* the bump? I guess as long as it's not eating down into the mass then it's definitely not like Echo!

maybe it is a sebacious cyst, it is a collection of sebum from the hair shaft, I have seen them in my dogs too, I like Jo, would have plucked it out a long time ago :0)
