...and I'm not sure how to best take care of his remaining brother. Bugsy was a very distinguished age (2.5 years old) and had been having trouble for a while. We knew it was coming, but it's still very tragic. His brother, Hoppy, buried him in bedding, and we found him curled up next to the body in the morning. Very touching, but totally heartbreaking.
Hoppy started showing signs of respiratory infection almost immediately, sneezing and wheezing. I think it's a stress or mourning related Myco flare up, and I've booked a vet appointment for antibiotics.
I know that rats shouldn't be left alone because they are social and get lonely quickly, but if Hoppy is having a Myco flare up I obviously can't introduce a new rat until he's feeling better.
I've never lost a rat before and am kind of uncertain what I should do. How can I help ease Hoppy's discomfort and keep him happy until it's safe to get him a new friend?
