Has a horrible gash on her face from her ear to her throat!! OMG, I about died when I saw it, laying wide open  :sick2: Hubby won't spring for vet so, I'm keeping it clean an watching very, very closely. Anything else I should be doing?

Rats heal up amazingly quick. Flush it with saline solution and keep the cage neat and tidy so that no debris can get in there. Poor Sookie!

Once it stops bleeding you can give her pain meds, if you think she's in a lot of pain (which she likely is).

Just make sure you don't give any pain meds while she's still bleeding because you don't want the blood to thin. Keeping her warm and hydrated is important right now.

Do you know what happened?

Hubby won't spring for vet? Sorry, but that just sucks. I hope he has other "redeeming qualities" to make up for his less than stellar attitude towards a warm, friendly and fuzzy little life form in pain.

My husband didn't like my pet either when we were married.... but he took care of her because he loved me.

I know how deep it is but I saw some whiteish stuff, didn't look any further I was freaking completely. I cleaned it and placed her in a hospital cage where it nice and warm, clean and draft free. She has plenty of food and water. There was not much blood for the size of it. What signs should I look for in regards to infection?

She will probably heal up fast. You could flush it a couple of times. Look for redness, swelling, pus and a foul smell, if you do see those, she'll need a vet, regardless of what hubby says.

How is she? Any sign of infection use 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water, but she'll need a vet if it gets bad. Hopefully hubby will agree if homecare can't heal her.
Otherwise -

I'd spring for another hubby :p
I'd spring for a vet and get another hubby for free :giggle:

If it comes to a choice between hubby & pets
I'd take all his money and spend it for vets.

Lol, just kidding... It came to mind and then it rhymed - should I just toast it? I had to post it! :whip:
