Mishka, who I believe is newly 2 years old, has always been a larger rat. Fed the same diet as her previous cage mate, but she was always bigger, despite being the one who runs on the wheel. She has out time every day.

I have started to weigh her weekly and she has recently put on some weight with no diet change (blocks and veggies and the rare rice puff). She is now 500g, a big girl! Her new cage mates are lean, younger, girls. She is also the rattie who hides the rat blocks.

Is this weight gain just typical aging? Hubby just says she is the "fat rat" variety!

Here she is, squished in between Pecan and Peanut.

How much weight has she gained? I know they are less active as they age. Any other symptoms, does she look sick? That's a cute pic.

She's a cutie! I also have had the occasional rat who got the same food as everyone else but who gained a lot of weight. If she is energetic enough to run on the wheel, she must be OK.

She has gain about 10 g in two weeks.

No other symptoms that I have noticed. I keep feeling her for lumps.

She has always liked her food!

That's what I keep thinking.

10 grams is not much of a concern. At her age you don't want to put her on a diet, since she's eating very healthy as it is. I would keep watching her, keep weighing her. Is she continues to get bigger, then I'd probably get her checked out.

Thank you.
