Normally if the rat can recover from the surgery, as our vet sees it, we will go ahead with surgery.  I am currently dealing with this now with Dusty, he is my 2yr old + that has chronic ear infections and an eye issue all of which are being treated but never go away fully.  The vet has agreed with me that due to his age and other issues we need to leave his lump that he has in his armpit alone.  No removal. This is partially due to the concern that the ear infection may cause an abscess in the incision as the ear thing has yet to fully be controlled.
